General.

The work  procedure as  given are  to be  applied  for  the  handling  of  the  backfilling  to  the  extent necessary   to  conform  with  the  finished  grades,  cross  sections  and  dimensions as  shown  on  the  drawings.  All  timbering  and  debris  shall be  removed   before  backfill  is  placed.

Generally  soil  shall be  used  for  bacfilling, except  for  the  top  300 mm layer  of a backfill around exterior walls and  foundations  where  also non-gtanular  materials  such  as  silt  and  clay  may  be  used.  Spaces  not  occupied  by  permanent  works   shall be  refilled to  the  surface  of  the  surrounding  ground  or  as per  level  indicated  on  the  drawings  before  being  compacted  and  neatly  graded.

No  backfill  shall be  placed  againts  any  foundation  or  wall  until  21  days  after  placing  the  concrete,  or  until  the  wall  gained  sufficient  strength  to  support  the  imposed  load.

 

Method  of  Compaction.,

Soil  shall be  spread  in  solid  laters of  300 mm at  near  to  optimum  moisture  conytent  and  compacted  to  achieve  a minimum  0f  90 %  of  the  standard  compaction as  reccording  to  the  Proctor  Density Test.

Compaction  shall whwnever  possible  performed  by  mechanical  means  through motorized  stampers  otherwise  manual  hand  stampers  will  be  used,

 

Levelling  of  Final  Grading.

The  surface  of  grading  shall be  graded  as  per  required  levels  on  the  drawings .  Any  settlement  below  the  designed  finish  grading  shall be made  good.
